Who checks SWMS compliance in Queensland?+
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is the regulator. Their inspectors turn up on Queensland construction sites unannounced, and the SWMS for any high-risk construction work is standard checklist material.
When does Queensland law require a SWMS?+
Queensland follows the harmonised framework, so a SWMS must be prepared before any high-risk construction work starts under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld) — heights with a fall risk over 2 metres, trenches past 1.5 metres, work near live services, demolition and so on. It has to be available on site and followed while the work's happening.
